About Market 166

Who We Are

We are your neighbors, and we’re building a people-first grocery store right here in our community. We are everyday people who want to support local businesses and keep money in our community. We are change makers who believe fresh produce and nourishing food should be bountiful in our neighborhood. Together, we are creating more than a grocery store: we are connecting communities through food, one Owner at a time.

Our store is truly OUR store. We own it. Join us.

What do you mean, community-owned?

Market 166 has always been rooted in community, and always will be. Hungry for better, fresher, local food options – and tired of having to travel far to get them – a group of neighbors came together to create a grocery store that would be of, by, and for the community. A cooperative is a business model that allows people to combine their resources to meet their common needs – When you become an Owner in our cooperative, you are investing directly in your community’s wellbeing. As an Owner, you are able to vote to elect our Board of Directors and on other key decisions. Store profits go back to the community – not to some out-of-town corporate headquarters. And the best part is that we own it, we build it, and we benefit from it – right here where we live.

Join the hundreds of others in our community who have become Owners and join today.

“I’ll become an Owner once the store opens”

Our cooperative doesn’t have out-of-town executives, corporate sponsors, or large financial backers. We are community-owned by everyday people like you, and we are committed to keeping it that way. We rely on support from our community in order to bring this vision to reality.

The most impactful contribution you can make to bringing Market 166 to our neighborhood is to become an Owner today. Start-up grocery cooperatives like ours demonstrate viability by how many Owners we have. Ownership numbers show community support and desire for a local grocery store. Ownership growth signals we can move on to the construction phase. We are eager to bring more fresh food to our community, buy from local farmers and businesses, and bring neighbors together.
