Run For The Board

Market 166 is democratically governed by neighbors like you. Our Board of Directors translates our community’s vision into strategic action.

A Working Board for a Working Co-op

We are looking for passionate, dedicated owners to join our Board of Directors. This isn’t just a title. It’s a hands-on commitment to building a grocery store from the ground up. Our 15-member Board is responsible for the financial health, strategic direction, and ultimate success of Market 166.

The Commitment

Serving on the Board is a significant way to invest in your community.

  • Term: 3 Years
  • Time: Approximately 20 hours per month
  • Meetings: Bi-monthly Board meetings, plus committee work and training.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategize: Execute the vision, mission, and values of Market 166.
  • Oversee: Ensure strong financial management and fiduciary oversight.
  • Build: Approve and monitor committees, programs, and future staff (including our General Manager).
  • Engage: Actively communicate with owners and show up at community events.

Who We’re Looking For

You must be a Market 166 Owner to serve. Beyond that, we are looking for neighbors with the time to commit and a passion for food justice.

We are specifically seeking skills in:

  • Capital Campaign Planning & Fundraising
  • Financial Management & Accounting
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Project Management
  • Community Organizing

Note: You don’t need to be an expert in any or all of these! A willingness to learn and work together is the most important qualification.

The Election Process (Annual Cycle)

We hold elections every September at our Annual Owners Meeting.

Typical Timeline:

  • July: Applications Open. Info Sessions held.
  • August: Candidate Interviews with the Board.
  • September: Election at the Annual Meeting.
  • October: New Board Member Orientation & Term Begins.
